Are you a recent graduate looking for meaningful work in a Brussels-based traineeship?

Here’s a chance to join our award-winning team and tackle disinformation in Europe. International news literacy organisation Lie Detectors employs trainees who will help us promote news literacy and critical thinking through our work with journalists, schools, researchers and policymakers.

You must have the drive, an eye for detail and be fluent in English and French. This is a full-time, four-month traineeship with an option to renew for two additional months. Our traineeships have, on occasion, led to entry-level permanent employment.

We are filling this position at short notice and will review applications daily. Start date is as soon as possible and no later than May 2023. The application deadline is Thursday 30 March at 23:59 CET. We may expedite contact with strong candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Support our mission of turning schoolchildren and teachers into powerful critical thinkers by helping us administer our 1000+ annual classroom visits;
  • Ensure our news-literacy materials are in top shape, by supporting our proofreading and updates;
  • Enter and process the vital feedback we receive from participating students to facilitate our analysis and advocacy work (data entry);
  • Achieve agreed personal targets and contribute to those of the team as a whole;
  • Independently conduct internet research in English and French;
  • Maintain an orderly database, enforce order in our filing system;
  • Following meetings on an ad hoc basis and writing minutes.

Ideal Qualifications and Skills

  • Studies towards or completed a Bachelor’s or similar degree/work experience in administration, journalism, education, public policy, or related fields;
  • Demonstrated interest in our field of work - journalism, education, public policy and/or media literacy;
  • Experience with editing, research, reporting, filing of documents, PowerPoint presentation, scheduling, etc. We love Excel at Lie Detectors and use Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Professional fluency in English and French;
  • Detail-oriented and organised;
  • Available full-time from as soon as possible and no later than May 2023, for at least four months;
  • Familiarity with education and/or media in Europe a plus;
  • Ideally, you will be familiar with contact-database software such as Salesforce but this is not a dealbreaker. Same goes for statistical software such as SPSS.
