Who are we looking for?

We are currently looking for a full-time (38 hours/week) Assistant Finance & Grants Operations Officer to work with us on the internal financial administration of our organisation, as well as supporting the implementation of grant-based projects and other activities inside the NGO.

The work will be fully remote, however you should be based in Brussels, as you will be required to attend in-person meetings from time to time (on average six times a month).

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Treasurer in managing the organisation’s internal accounting records, financial documentation and day-to-day administration in line with Belgian legal requirements;
  • Supporting the preparation of financial overviews, internal reports and documentation for the Board and relevant stakeholders;
  • Carrying out operational grant administration tasks;
  • Researching relevant grant opportunities and supporting the preparation of grant applications;
  • Supporting general project administration and grant management tasks when required;
  • Taking on other flexible operational tasks typical of a European NGO environment, especially in support of finance processes and grant operations.

Must Have

  • Proven experience in accounting, financial administration, grant administration or a related operational finance role;
  • Good understanding of accounting processes, preferably under Belgian law;
  • Relevant Master’s degree or equivalent experience in accounting, finance, business administration, economics, public administration or a related field;
  • Experience with grant administration, including application support, reporting, budget tracking;
  • Proficient IT skills, especially Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace;
  • Excellent command of both English and French;
  • Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced international NGO environment;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Flexible, hands-on mindset with willingness to support finance, grant and administrative tasks when needed.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience in accounting or financial administration within a nonprofit, association or NGO;
  • Knowledge of Dutch;
  • Prior engagement in youth NGOs or other NGOs at national or European level is highly valued.
